Recipe to prepare "Banarasi Dahi waale Aaloo" - Famous dish of the Holy Banaras city:
Ingredients:1. turmeric - 1/4 tea spoon
2. red chilly powder - 1 tea spoon
3. seasoning (garam masala) - 1 tea spoon
4. coriander powder - 1/2 tea spoon
5. curd - 3-4 table spoon
6. cooking oil - 1 table spoon
7. cumin seeds - 1 tea spoon
8. garlic (chopped) - 3-4 cloves
9. curry leaves - 1 stalk
10. dried (whole) red chilly - 1
11. onion (finely chopped) - 1 medium size
12. tomato (diced) - 1 medium size
13. boiled potatoes (diced) - 3 or 4 medium size
14. coriander leaves - 1 stalk
15. salt - to taste
16. chaat masala - 1 pinch
17. water - 1 small bowl
Steps:
1. take a bowl and add in it:
a. 1/4 tea spoon turmeric
b. 1 tea spoon red chilly powder
c. 1/2 tea spoon coriander powder
d. 1 tea spoon seasoning (garam masala)
e. 3-4 table spoon curd
2. mix all the ingredients for a fine paste
3. heat 1 table spoon cooking oil in a pan (on medium flame)
4. add the ingredients:
a. 1 tea spoon cumin seeds
b. chopped garlic (3-4 cloves)
c. curry leaves (1 stalk)
d. 1 dried (whole) red chilly
e. finely chopped onion (1 medium size)
5. fry them well
6. keep stirring the curd paste in bowl, and pour it in the pan
7. stir the mixture well
8. add diced tomato (1 medium size)
9. add salt to taste
10. add diced (boiled) potatoes (3 or 4 medium size)
11. toss the dish
12. pour 1 small bowl water for a thick gravy
13. cover the pan for atleast 1-2 mins
14. uncover the pan, and add 1 pinch chaat masala
15. add coriander leaves (1 stalk)
Wonderful attempt!!! Now, the Banarasi Dahi wale Aaloo dish is ready to be served.
